Mutant MashupRelease

What’s in the box?

It has been about four months now since we started working together on this company and its games.

It has been quite a change from the business apps I normally work on – gone are databases, JavaScript, and forms – we’re dealing with sprites, sounds, physics engines, and draw/update loops now. For me, it’s been a welcome change. I’ve been working for banks as a developer for a couple years now and I’ve stopped learning like I did when I first started. When Jason approached me with a game idea, I saw it as an opportunity to get creative and start learning again.

We’ve had a few stumbling blocks. The first game concept was rather ambitious but also somewhat niche – and we found out too late that someone had done nearly the exact same concept. We’ve switched frameworks once. We’ve discovered too late that an approach rendering the artwork would make our app take up hundreds of MB on the devices, and we had to change the way we create the sprites.

That being said, we’re close to releasing our first beta of a platformer game, for Android and iOS, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with friends and family at the end of this year. Details as to how you can get your hands on it are coming soon.
